James Benson Obituary

Jim was born on August 19, 1942, in Melbourne, MO the son of H.L. "Chick" and Lena Mae (Collins) Benson. On December 14, 1962, in Gilman City, Missouri; he married Ava Sue Turley and they enjoyed 62 years together.
Jim was a 1960 graduate of Gilman City High School. In 1974, he moved his family to Carrollton to open the Goodyear store that is now known as Benson Tire Center. In addition to his full-time job there, in 1994 he purchased a 180-acre farm north of Bogard, MO and enjoyed his time farming and tending to his cattle, fishing and gardening.
Jim is survived by his wife, Ava Benson, of the home; a son Greg Benson, and wife Cathy of Carrollton; a daughter Gayla Benson of Kansas City; 2 grandsons Wyatt Benson and Alijah, Cole Benson; and one great-grandson Beckham Benson all of Carrollton.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Johnny Benson and Bill Benson; and sister Joyce Roberts.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, January 30, 2025 at the Bittiker Funeral Home with Pastor Pat Gorsett officiating.
Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Rick Pierson, Tony Dooley, Johnnie Staton, Chad Bingham, Chris Cowherd, Denny Turley, Cole Benson and Wyatt Benson.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Wakenda Baptist Church.
