James P. Brost, age 84, of Cleveland passed away on Monday, September 15, 2025, at Froedtert Holy Family Memorial Hospital.

James was born on June 15, 1941, the son of the late Melvin and Evelyn (Lutze) Brost. He graduated with the class of 1959 from Sheboygan Central High School. He then served in the United States Army from 1960 to 1963. On May 6, 1967, James married the former Sandra L. Staudinger in Clarks Mills. James was employed at the C. Reiss Coal Company as an inventory controller for 38 years until his retirement. He was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Community in Newton. He was a 20-year volunteer at Froedtert Holy Family Memorial Hospital. James's two grandsons were a very important part of his life. He also enjoyed fishing, traveling, playing cards, Wisconsin Badgers, and the Milwaukee Brewers.

He is survived by his wife Sandra Brost, Cleveland; one son and daughter-in-law: Kevin (Kathy) Brost, Irma, WI; two grandsons: Ryan J. (Audry) Brost, Jefferson, WI, Dane P. Brost, Japan; one sister: Marlene Kleckner, Cleveland; one brother: Jeff Brost, Manitowoc; brother-in-law: Bob Staudinger and special friend Grace Horn, Valders; sister-in-law: Bonnie Panosh, Whitelaw; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents: Melvin and Evelyn Brost; one brother: Allen Brost; father-in-law and mother-in-law: Harold and Tina Staudinger; three brothers-in-law: Tim Staudinger, Gino Panosh, and Edward Kleckner.

A memorial mass will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, September 26, 2025, at St. Thomas the Apostle Community Church, 8100 Brunner Rd, Newton. Rev. Dave Beaudry will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial. Relatives and friends may call at the church on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Mass at 11:30 a.m. Military Honors will be accorded by American Legion Post 477 of St. Nazianz, WI.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Cleveland Fire Department, Cleveland Athletic Club, Cleveland Lions Club or Cleveland Fish and Game.
