Mr. James Allen Brown of Bay City, our beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, passed away on April 29, 2023. He was the son of Esther and Paul Brown. He was born in Saginaw, Michigan on September 19, 1935 and grew up in Essexville, Michigan.
He met Avis R. Paine at Bay City Central and they were married in 1953. They were married 63 years until Avis passed away in 2016. Jim had an illustrious career with Dow Chemical, where he had 7 patents during his 37 years with the company.
Jim and Avis retired to New Bern, North Carolina and wintered in Florida. Jim lived his dream of sailing his boat and traveling across the country. He was always generous with his time volunteering for the Church, Rotary Club and other organizations. He was particularly happy to volunteer as a fireman in New Bern. He made lasting friendships throughout his life and will be missed by all. They eventually moved back to Bay City.
After Avis's passing, Jim found love again with Dolores Brotherton. They met at the Rainbow Resort in Frostproof, Florida. They were married in 2018 and shared many good times together. They both enjoyed traveling, friends and family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Linda and his first wife, Avis. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Dolores Brown; three daughters, Carrie (Melanie), Debra and Avis A. (James); step-daughter, Carole (Vance); step-son, Kenneth (Cheryl); 9 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
Jim will be greatly missed and kept close in our hearts and memories. We know he is with our Lord in Heaven, happy and content, surrounded by love.
In honoring the wishes of Jim, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, May 15, 2023 at Grace United Methodist Church. Visitation will take place at the church on Monday, May 15, 2023 from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service.
