James Wesley Bryant, 83, of Greenville, SC passed away on April 25, 2025, surrounded by his family. Wesley was born on September 29, 1941, in Middlesex County, VA. He was the son of the late Arthur William Bryant and Mary Garnett Thrift Bryant. Wesley was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Patricia Ann Watson Bryant, as well as his siblings, Billy Bryant, Jesse Bryant, Lillian Pearson, Marguerite Wheeler, Frances Ward, and Henry Bryant.
Wesley is survived by his daughters, April Wylie (Jeff) and Joy Hawkins (Chris), his grandchildren, Morgan and Scott Wylie, and Cole and Carter Hawkins. He is also survived by his siblings, Barbara Payne and Richard Bryant, along with many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Wesley graduated from William R. Davie High School in Roanoke Rapids, NC, in 1960. He married Patricia, his high school sweetheart in 1963 and together they moved to Newport News, VA, where he graduated from the Apprentice School of the Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company in 1966. In 1974, Wesley relocated his family to Greenville, SC, where he worked as a Piping Designer for several engineering firms over the course of his career, including J.E. Sirrine and Simons Eastern.
Wesley's life was marked by deep love-for his family, his friends, classic cars, and the game of golf. He was a devoted husband, a gentle and present father, and a playful Papa who could always make his grandchildren laugh. As the seventh of nine children, Wesley treasured the bonds with his siblings and always looked forward to family gatherings. For nearly five decades, he took part in an annual golf trip with a group of longtime friends-a tradition that brought him immense joy and camaraderie.
Known for his gentle and quiet spirit, as well as his strong sense of humor, Wesley touched the lives of all who knew him. He will be remembered with love and missed deeply.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 2, 2025, at 2:30 pm in the Mausoleum Chapel at Graceland East Memorial Park, 2206 Woodruff Rd, Simpsonville, SC 29681. The family will receive friends at the chapel from 2:00 pm until the hour of the service. The burial will follow the service.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the caregivers that have loved and cared for Wesley over the years: Kim, Carole, Taunya, Lacey, Allie, Rhonda, Haley, and Marla, as well as the compassionate nurses and caregiver team at Interim Healthcare.
