James "Jim" Delbert Cabe, 82, Marion, went to be with the Lord in his home at 7:56 am on Friday, August 15, 2025, surrounded by family. He was born in Marion, Indiana, on Tuesday, December 1, 1942, to the late Lawrence "Delmus" and Nellie Fern (Hoke) Cabe. He married his beloved bride, Linda Sue Kellams, on December 14, 1969, and she survives.
A lifetime resident of Grant County, Jim was known for his unwavering dedication and loyal service. He gave 45 years to General Cable in Marion, where he was a Quality Assurance Lab Technician until his retirement in 2009. Earlier in his life, Jim farmed part-time and honorably served his country in the National Guard from 1963 to 1969.
His faith was a cornerstone of his life. Jim was a devoted and active member of his beloved Maple Run Friends Church, where he served as a trustee and took pride in helping with general maintenance and upkeep.
Jim had a deep love and appreciation for the outdoors, especially when riding his John Deere tractor to mow the lawn. He found joy in gardening, yard work, and attending antique tractor and toy train shows. A passionate collector, he treasured his toy John Deere and International tractors.
Jim was also an enthusiastic supporter and follower of Oak Hill Athletics, Purdue Athletics, and, of course, his favorite baseball team, the Atlanta Braves. Above all, Jim will be remembered for his steadfast devotion to his family and to the Lord.
The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff at Heart to Heart Hospice for their loving care.
Along with his loving wife, Linda, Jim is survived by his daughters, Shelly (Kevin) Renbarger and Kristi (Kevin) Scheer; son, Marc Cabe; six grandchildren, Braden and Ashlyn Renbarger, Hannah and Emma Bennett, and Claire and Christian Scheer; and sister-in-law, Melody Cabe.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Lee Cabe.
Family and friends may call from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm on Thursday, August 21, 2025, at Maple Run Friends Church, 4460 W. 400 S., Marion, IN.
Immediately following the time of visitation, a service to celebrate Jim's life will take place at 1:00 pm. Pastor John Key and Pastor John Lenfesty will officiate with burial to follow at Grant Memorial Park.
