James Robert Cagle also known as Bob, 78 passed away peacefully on December 27, 2025. He was born on April 23, 1947, in
Salt Lake City, UT to James Hook Cagle and Helen Matdila Roper Cagle. Bob was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He graduated from Box Elder High School and then served in the United States Army as a Medic from February 1969 to February 1971. Soon after leaving the army he met his future wife, Sherry Stokes on a blind date set up by his father. Things did not go well, but two weeks later on their second date they fell madly in love. They married August 4, 1971 in the Logan Temple, and they were together for 54 years. He graduated from Weber State University receiving a BA degree. Bob worked at Hill Air Force Base for over 10 years. He then got his dream job as a Pharmaceutical Sales Rep which took his family to Las Vegas, Nevada. He enjoyed talking with people, won many awards with his company, and made many friends, retiring after 20 years.
Bob had many passions in life: fly fishing, archery, trap shooting, camping, hiking, and tying flies were more than hobbies to him; they were his way of connecting with nature, all living creatures, and his adventurous spirit. He also loved learning about Native American history and culture. His artistic talents extended to making and selling knives, scrimshaw, and crafting with deer antlers, all of which showcased his detailed craftsmanship. Bob also held a deep love for Yellowstone National Park, a place especially meaningful to him, where he and his wife spent their honeymoon creating memories that lasted a lifetime. However, the true testament to Bob's loving character was his devotion to his family and dogs, whom he treasured above all else. Bob was an adventurous soul with a playful, teasing nature and a great sense of humor that could lighten any moment and truly lit up any room he entered.
Bob is survived by his loving wife, Sherry, and their children, Jason Cagle (Tume) and Jamie Cagle; his beautiful granddaughters, Peyton Brown (Frank Kumah), Paizleigh Aguilar (Rome), and Jadelyn Cagle; and his great grandson, RJ. He is also survived by his brother, Jeffery Brent Cagle (DeAnn), and sisters Jill Kelly, Julie Coleman (Dal), and Jennifer Price (Keith). Also surviving are his sisters in law Susan Reeve (Ron), Sally Stokes, Summer Peterson (Joel), and Stephanie Petersen (Lane), along with 26 nieces and nephews, many dear friends, and his beloved dogs, Lex and Sox. Bob was welcomed into heaven by his parents, James and Helen Cagle; his in-laws,Joseph T and Lorna Stokes; his son, Christopher Brown; his sister, Audree Anderson, and her husband, Don Anderson; and his loving dogs Bub, Chester, Storm, and Polo.
Bob will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His kindness, playful teasing, and warm sense of humor left a lasting impression on everyone he met. The love he shared with his family, friends, and faithful dogs will continue to live on through the memories and stories cherished by those whose lives he touched. Though he is no longer with us, Bob's legacy of love, laughter, and devotion will never be forgotten. The family would also like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate medical staff and friends who cared for Bob and supported him with dignity, kindness, and respect during his final days.
A private family celebration of life will be held.
