James “Jimmy” Franklin Calvert, 82, of Sophia, WV went home to be with the Lord on Friday, October 18, 2024.
Jimmy was born in Lillybrook, WV on June 21, 1942. He was a former physical education teacher and General Manager of David Hill Concrete. Jimmy enjoyed coaching, doing yard work, detailing his vehicles, and spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Emory Calvert and Marie Athelene Nicely Calvert; his daughter, Julie Anna Calvert Wolfe; brother, Larry Calvert; and extended family members, David Martin, Dwayne Martin, and Kenneth Martin.
Jimmy is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Jesse McElrath Calvert; daughters, Jennifer (Bob) Hilgardner and Jamie (Todd) Kingrey; grandson, Griffin James Kinder; son-in-law, Donald Wolfe, siblings, Peggy (Jim) Tully and Lyndell Stump; as well as many friends and extended family members.
Per Jimmy’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. He will be laid to rest at the family farm in Newport, VA.
The Calverts would like to express special thanks to Donny Shupe, Diana Frazier, Mary Veneri, Heather Heath, Michelle Kincaid and the staff of Bowers Hospice House.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Bowers Hospice House, PO Box 1472, Beckley, WV 25802.
