James Cane Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Highland Hills Funeral Home & Crematory on Jun. 4, 2025.
James Edward Cane, Jr., age 44, transitioned from this earthly life to eternal life on Monday, May 26, 2025.
James Edward Cane Jr., affectionately known as "Punkin," passed away on Monday, May 26, 2025, in Nashville, Tennessee. He was 44 years old. Born at Vanderbilt Hospital on January 12, 1981, James was the firstborn child of Mary Stevenson and the eldest of nine siblings-a title he wore with both pride and responsibility. As the big brother, he was the protector, the prankster, and the heartbeat of countless family memories. He had a natural charm, a loud laugh, and an uncanny ability to lift the mood in any room. He attended Maplewood High School, where his love for music took root. A standout in the school choir, he later went on to form a male singing group with close friends Cree Turner and Nigel Smith. Music was more than a talent for James-it was an expression of who he was.
James was raised in the church and, while he didn't always walk a traditional path, his faith always remained. In recent months, he recommitted his life to Christ, bringing peace to both himself and his family.
He was formerly married to his devoted wife, Amanda Cane. Though the role he held dearest was that of father to his beloved daughter, Serenity Lee. She was his pride, his joy, and his greatest source of purpose.
James also shared a deep, lifelong bond with his uncles-the Stevenson brothers-who often served as role models and big brothers throughout his life.
He is survived by his mother Mary Stevenson and her partner Ron Brown; his grandmother Mother Christine Stevenson; his daughter Serenity Lee; and his siblings Christine Cane, David Cane, Crissy Stevenson, Michael Stevenson, Vontiesha Cane, Lederrius Dickerson, Nikki Cane, Benjamin Cane, and Marvin Creech. His memory lives on in each of them-in every story, every smile, and every song.
