James Cantrell Obituary

Published by Legacy on Mar. 30, 2026.
James E. Cantrell, Jr., of Lexington, passed away at home on March 23, 2026 after a brief, but hard fought, battle with cancer. He was 62.

He was born on December 8, 1963 in Columbus, Ohio to the late James E. and Carolyn Sue (Dickenson) Cantrell. On April 9, 1989 he married Judith Fown, and the couple shared almost 38 years of marriage together.

As a man of faith, James regularly attended the Church of the Cross in Lexington, Southside Christian Church in Mansfield, and Grace Point in Lexington. In his spare time he enjoyed casting a line at his favorite fishing spot, listening to hours and hours of music, and spending as much time as possible with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his loving wife Judith Cantrell, brother Scott (Mary) Cantrell, daughter Trina (Andy) VanMeter, grandchildren Anthony Belcher, Gage (Sky) Belcher, David VanMeter, Paige Belcher, Gabriel Jungling, and great-grandchildren Brantley, Charlotte, Aria, and Ava, as well as nephews Matthew Cantrell and niece Ashley Cantrell.

In addition to his parents James is preceded in death by his sister and grandparents.

A memorial service honoring James' life will be held on Saturday, April 18, 2026 at 11 am at the Lexington Church of the Cross, 236 Otterbein Dr., Lexington, Ohio 44904.
