James “Jim” E. Casperson, Jr, age 78 of Meadville, PA passed away Sunday, January 4, 2026 at Meadville Medical Center. He was born on August 27, 1947 in Marion, OH to the late James and Marie (Shuster) Casperson. He married Denise Crabb on February 29, 1992. She survives.

Jim graduated from Marion Harding High School. He then enlisted in the US Air Force and served as a military police officer in Goose Bay, Labrador, Canada and Sioux St. Marie, MI during the Vietnam War. After he was honorably discharged from the military, he went to work for the Erie Lackawanna Railroad. When he was laid off from the railroad, Jim kept himself busy running the Eagles Club bowling alley in the winters and umpiring softball games at the 5th Ward ball fields during the summers. He eventually went back to work for the Norfolk Southern railroad and retired from there in 2013.

Jim was a lifetime member of #429 Eagles Club and a worthy past president. He is in the Western Crawford County Bowling Association Bowling Hall of Fame. He was a former member of VFW Post #2006. He enjoyed playing softball, bowling and golfing but was most known for being the family jokester. He was always playing tricks on everyone and all of his children and grandchildren looked forward to his next prank.

In addition to his beloved wife of 33 years, Denise, he is survived by his children, Jeffrey Casperson of Lexington, KY, Cindy Alward and her husband, Scott of Cambridge Springs, PA, Mendi Annandono and her husband, Joe of Meadville, PA and Rebecca Byler and her husband, Bradley of Atlantic, PA; his daughter-in-law, Kristy Maynard of Cochranton, PA; 15 grandchildren, Justin, Kayla, Codi, Jesse, Kyle, Tyler, Adam, Janae, Ryan, Madison, Dylan, Aryah, CJ, Ashton and Ethan; 11 great grandchildren; his brother, Terry Casperson of OH and his sisters-in-law, Carol Callahan of Meadville, PA, Dawna Hockenberry of Greenville, PA, Daphne Sheets and her husband, Todd of Morgantown, WV and Waneta Callahan of Meadville, PA.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; his sons, Tony Casperson and Chris Maynard; his grandson, Nathan Siple; his sister and brother-in-law, Jackie and Tom Lothes; his sisters-in-law, Carol Casperson and Darla Shriver and his brothers-in-law, James Callahan and Brian Callahan.

Family and friends are invited to call on Friday January 9, 2026 from 5-8 pm at Hatheway-Tedesco Funeral Home and Crematory, 614 Baldwin St., Meadville, PA 16335 and Saturday January 10, 2026 from 10:00 am until the time of the service at 12:00 pm with Pastor Loren Little officiating.
