James Chaffee

James Chaffee, 88, of Albion, died on Thursday November 9, 2023 at his home surrounded by family.
James was born June 23, 1935 in Sharon, PA, a son of the late James and Charlotte (Weaver) Chaffee Carroll.
He attended Platea Boro School and Albion High School for a short time, then he enlisted in the United State Navy in 1951. While enlisted he served on several Navy ships and duty stations he was discharged in 1956. James then re-entered the United States Navy from 1958-1960. Following his Honorable discharge he returned to Platea and worked at various manufacturing companies in maintenance and as a machine operator. It was at this time he met the love of his life Barbara (Barty) Forbes, they were married in June 1957. He also continued to volunteer with various fire departments in the West County area, he was past 1st Lieutenant and Fire Police Captain.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of over fifty years, Barbara L. "Barty" Chaffee whom he married on June 1, 1957 ; son, Patrick Chaffee; a daughter, Cindy L. Shaw; sister, Orla S. Shup; his step father, Walter C. Greenhill.
He will be greatly missed by his family, which includes his daughters, Barbara J. (Rick) Eaton, and Sharon C. Petri (Harve) of Springboro, PA; sons, James "Bob" (Kathy) Chaffee and David A. Chaffee (Michelle); eleven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
According to James's wishes, there will be no calling hours observed.
Burial will be in the Francis Cemetery.
Memorial may be made to the Platea Volunteer Fire Department, 10012 Maple Street, Girard, PA 16417.
