James Marvin Chambers, known as "Jimmy" to his friends and family, was born on March 11, 1938, in Georgetown, Texas to Andrew James Chambers and Faye Matthews Chambers. Jimmy's journey on earth came to its end on October 16, 2025, in Taylor, Texas.
Jimmy's early life in Georgetown was filled with the joys of childhood and the strong bonds of family. He grew up alongside his devoted siblings, Patricia Lynn Bridges, Jon Alton "Bubba" Chambers, and Robert Howell "Bobby" Chambers. His childhood years were spent attending Georgetown public schools forming lifelong friendships.
Jimmy enlisted in the US Navy. There he met and married Gayla Long while stationed in California. After his enlistment. Jimmy and Gayla eventually returned to Georgetown and raised their family. Jimmy was a member of Main Street Baptist Church where he served as deacon. Together they raised their children, Wendy Jean, James Richard, Tina Lane, and Paul Justin. Jimmy and Gayla also opened their hearts and home to foster-son Donald Earl Arbuckle, who became a part of their family.
Jimmy's life was marked by his love for fishing, a pastime that allowed him to appreciate nature while reflecting on the blessings of life. But above all, his greatest joy was found in the laughter and company of his family. His presence was a source of comfort and happiness, and his legacy is carried on in the lives of his children and the memories they cherish.
Jimmy is preceded in death by Andrew and Faye Chambers; brother Bubba Chambers and sister-in-law JoAnn; brother, Bobby Chambers; sister-in-law Collene Pool; daughter-in-law, Jane Chambers; and foster-son, Donald Arbuckle.
He is survived by wife, Gayla; daughters, Wendy and Tina; sons, Richard and Paul; sister, Patricia Bridges (Murray); brother-in-law, Dan Pool; brother-in-law, Garth Long; sister-in-law, Karen Long; grandchildren, Raesha Barfuss (Kyle), Jamie Zivley, Hunter Chambers (Charley Ryder); and great-grandson, Brandon James Barfuss, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Jimmy's service will be held at Beck Funeral Home, 15709 Ranch Rd 620 N, Austin, TX 78717; Wednesday, October 22, 2025 with visitation beginning at 10am, service at noon, and interment at IOOF cemetery in Georgetown.
