December 20, 1940 – January 27, 2023
Pleasant Valley
Jimmy, a lifelong resident of Dutchess County passed away on Friday, January 27, 2023, surrounded by his family. He was 82.
He is the son of the late Charles P. and Sarah E. Braken Chapman.
Jimmy married the love of his life, Sharon M. Sackett, on April 27, 1977, in Poughkeepsie, NY. Sharon survives him at home.
In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his brothers, Charles, Kenneth, Mickey, and Harold, as well as his sisters, Harriet Chapman, Gloria Velie, Shirley Silverman and Joan Long.
Jimmy worked in the trucking industry as a truck driver for Nightingale Express/ Nestor Brothers until his retirement.
In addition to his wife Sharon, Jimmy is survived by his sons, James H. Chapman Jr., Dale A. Chapman and wife Maria, his daughters, Jaime L. Chapman and her husband Scott Grasso, and Jacqueline M. Chapman as well as his grandchildren, Patrick H. Wood III, James Wood, Matthew A. Grasso, Sophia L. Grasso and Adriana Harriet Chapman.
Jimmy is also survived by his brothers, David and Bonnie Chapman Sr., and Richard and Cheryl Chapman Sr., as well as Charlotte Chapman Moegel and Sarah Chapman Brennie, and their families.
There is also an overabundance of family members surviving and they are in our hearts at this difficult time.
Funeral services will begin at 8pm at Sweets Funeral Home 4365 Albany Post Rd., Hyde Park New York, on Thursday, February 2, 2023. Relatives and friends may call from 6 PM to 8 PM prior to the service. If you choose to send flowers the family is requesting live plants. Donations are encouraged to be made to Hudson Valley Hospice Foundation, 80 Washington Street, Suite 204, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601 or online at www.hvhospice.org.
