James Earl Chapman, 89, of Lewisville, Texas, passed away on July 11, 2025. A loving husband, devoted father, and cherished friend, James leaves a legacy defined by hard work, warmth, and a servant's heart. He will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
Born on October 29, 1935, in Bruce, Mississippi, James was proud of his Southern heritage, growing up with the values of integrity, dedication, and kindness that would guide his life. After graduating from Ellard High School followed by a technical college, he embarked on life's journey, beginning work at Arrow Equipment in Memphis on the Mississippi River's President's Island; then, to the construction of the Lewisville Dam in 1955-an early connection to the town that would become his lifelong home.
James' path led him first to Memphis, Tennessee, and then, in 1960, to Texas. In 1964, he settled in Lewisville, a small, but growing community then, where he would spend the next six decades building a life rich in purpose and relationships.
A man of deep faith, James was a charter member of Northview Baptist Church, serving faithfully since 1964 in various capacities-offering his hands, his time, and his heart to the church and its congregation. His steadfast presence and genuine care touched the lives of countless fellow church members.
Professionally, James spent many years with United Transports and Yellow Freight, earning the respect of his colleagues for his strong work ethic and dependability. After retiring, James continued to lend his remarkable skills to his neighbors, friends, and businesses as a welder. He was the owner of Chapman's Welding Service and was known for his ability to "weld anything except the break of day and a broken heart"-a bit of wit characteristic of his quick humor and approachable spirit.
James never met a stranger. His days were filled with conversation, laughter, and stories-each tale dusted with the charm and wisdom that invited others in. He was always ready with a helping hand or a listening ear, and his wit brought light to every gathering.
Family was the absolute center of James' world. He was married nearly 69 years to his beloved wife, Beulah Chapman, a testament to love and commitment. Together, they built a close-knit family with their son Kirk and daughter Teresa. He was deeply devoted to his family, treasuring every moment spent with his children and grandchildren, and he made it his mission to create a home filled with warmth, laugher, and support.
An avid fan of rodeo, James was a former calf roper and team-penner who never tired of watching a good rodeo from the stands in Salinas, California, and Cheyenne,Wyoming, or just from his television in his home.
James Earl Chapman is survived by his wife, Beulah Chapman; his son, Kirk Chapman and wife Wendy; his daughter, Teresa Chapman Wells and husband Ken Wells; granddaughters Amanda Sessums, Molly Stevens, and Emily Wells; grandsons James (JD) Wells and wife Erica; Heath Wells and wife Whitney. Great Grandchildren include: Jolie Wells, Brady James Wells, Sadie Wells, Heely Stevens, Makayne Stevens, Bryson Sessums, JD Brown, and Makenzee Sessums. His legacy of faith, generosity, and good humor will live on in their hearts and in the community he served so faithfully.
A celebration of Life service will be held at Northview Baptist Church in Lewisville, Texas, on Tuesday, July 15, 2025. Visitation will begin at 1:00 pm, followed by the service at 2:00 pm and interment at Old Hall Cemetery. Friends and loved ones are invited to celebrate the life of a remarkable man.
