James “Chip” Joseph Posch, age 67, of Moorhead, MN, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, November 17, 2025 surrounded by his family.
Chip was born on December 15, 1957, in Little Falls, MN, graduating in 1976. He first met Brenda Welle of Melrose, MN, at a TEC retreat, a faith-filled encounter that blossomed into a lifelong partnership. On September 2, 1983, they were married, beginning a union rooted in love and devotion that lasted 42 years.
A devoted and faithful man, Chip dedicated his life to bringing others closer to God. He was a Perfusionist with Sanford in Fargo, a career he loved and took great pride in, knowing his work made a difference in the lives of many. Outside of his profession, Chip cherished time with his family, loved taking trips and camping together, with the highlight being a family Disney cruise vacation in March of 2025. He found joy in deer hunting, and was known for his love of saving—he always made sure to use his coupons.
Growing up, Chip played baseball, football, and wrestling, and his passion for sports carried through his life. He loved cheering for Minnesota teams—the Vikings, Twins, Gophers—and was a proud Spuds fan watching his kids play. Chip was also known for giving creative nicknames to those he loved, especially his children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and others, a playful tradition that will be fondly remembered. Through his work, Chip helped family and friends find good care, using his connections to guide them to trusted doctors, a reflection of his kindness and commitment to others.
Chip is survived by his beloved wife, Brenda, and their children: Christopher (Courtney) Posch, Ryan (Kayla) Posch, Michael (Jennifer Lymburner) Posch, and Jenna (Brenton) Knutzen. He was a proud grandfather to Lana, Capri, Violet, Graham, William, Ashton, Hayes, and eagerly awaited the arrival of baby Knutzen in February 2026.
He is also survived by his father, James Posch; siblings Tim (Connie) Posch, Cindy (Terry) Baltes, Rob (Mandy) Posch, Tom (Katie) Posch, Donny (Tina) Posch, Teresa (Paul) Mergens, Tammy (Brian) Balerud, and Cecilia “Honey” (Kenny) Bjerke.
Chip is further survived by his in-laws: Herbie & Rosie Welle, Reggie (Ann) Welle, Randy (Gloria) Welle, Lisa (Eddie) Ohmann, and Ron (Patty) Welle, as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Cecilia “Chee Chee” Posch, baby Angel Posch, and daughter-in-law Caitlin Posch.
Visitation will be held from 5:00–7:00 p.m., with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m., on Friday, November 21, 2025. A second visitation will take place from 10:00–11:00 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Moorhead, MN.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Sanford Roger Maris Cancer Center, Sanford Fargo Hospice, St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, or St. Joseph’s Catholic School.
Services will be livestreamed here on Chip's webpage.
