James Clements Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Bland Funeral Home - Petersburg on Nov. 17, 2021.
Our hearts was sadden with the unexpected passing of our loved one, Rev. James Henry Clements Sr., 87, who entered eternal rest on Tuesday, November 16, 2021. He was born December 23, 1934, to Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Clements and Gracie Williams Clements. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Gracie Clements, wife, Ola V. Clements, son, Melvin Clements, brother, Julius Clements, niece, Trina Clements, and granddaughter, Marquita Spratley.
James left at an early age to join the US Air Force. It is there he met his lovely wife Ola V., one night at a base social. She was smitten with him, and, in a few months, they were married. After a year they were blessed with James Clements, Jr. Then they returned home to Hopewell, VA when he left the Airforce. James attended VSU and while they adjusted to life back in Virginia, Melvin was born. The family grew and so did his dream of having his own business. It became a reality in 1965, with J.H. Clements Electrical. He was the first African American electrician in Hopewell, VA. Along with his father Joseph, his brother Julius and son Melvin they grew the business into one that the city had never seen from local businesses to government contracts. When he retired in the mid-nineties, he had always been close to the Lord and turned to his Christian studies to become an ordained minister. He started the prison and community outreach ministry.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his sister Ms. Lela Howard and son Mr. James Clements Jr; God Son Wayne Outlaw; two nieces, Ms. Monite Jones Carlisle and Ms. Rosalyn Capers; great grandsons, Jason Brown and Caleb Brown; two great-nieces, Jasmine Capers of Hopewell and Rostrinique Drummond of Spartanburg, SC; three great-nephews, Terrill Jones (Deanna) of Prince George, Joseph Jones, and Trandon Tyler all of Hopewell; six great great nephews, Machi Jones, Marvin Jr Berry, KaRhon Jones, Roman Jones, Rylann Tyler and Akoi Jones; ten great great nieces Arvinique Berry, Charlie Jones, D'Ericka Taylor, Leanah Tyler, KyAhree Jones, K'Anah Jones, R'riyana Tyler, Yashine' Capers, Heaven Davis, and Scott Jones; and a long time family friend Sharon Napper. All of his family will TRULY miss James DEARLY. As well as all that knew him.
Celebration of Life service will be held 1 p.m., Tuesday, November 23, 2021 at Friendship Baptist Church, 1305 Arlington Rd., Hopewell, VA, 23860 Rev. Dr. Norwood Carson, eulogist. Interment will be held at Mt. Sinai Community Cemetery, Prince George, VA.
