Lloyd Clements Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Tuscaloosa Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, Memorial Park, and Crematory on Mar. 18, 2026.
James Lloyd Clements, of Cottondale, passed away on March 17, 2026, at his residence, just 5 months shy of his 90th birthday. A Graveside Funeral Service, with military honors, will be held on Friday, March 20, 2026, 11:00AM, at Old Center Cemetery, with John Vaughn officiating.

Known to most as Lloyd, Mr. Clements was born September 11, 1936, to the late Louie and Effie Moses Clements. A graduate of Brookwood High School, Class of 1954, after graduation he attended trade school at Shelton State. He entered the military, proudly serving as a member of the United States Army. As a civilian, he made a career with AT&T, where he was able to retire with 35 years of service. His long career with AT&T garnered him many lifelong friends, leading to a post-retirement breakfast club at Cracker Barrell, which he always looked forward to.

An avid hunter, Lloyd was a former member of New Moon Hunting Club. He was also a founding member of the Coaling Fire Department, where he served on the board of directors and as a firefighter and was on the Coaling Zoning Board for many years. He served for 12 years with the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Reserves.

A Christian by faith, he was saved at a young age. When he married his sweetheart Faye (Hobson) in 1982, he rededicated his life to the Lord. He gave of his time serving as an usher for First Wesley Church. In later years, he was active at Union Chapel Methodist Church. He also enjoyed mission trips while involved with church. Humble and caring, Lloyd exemplified what it means to have a servant's heart, always being quick to step in and help, whether it was family or others that God placed in his path.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Clements was preceded in death by a son Harchel Clements, daughter Syderia Porter Hallman, son-in-law Jeff Dollar, as well as a granddaughter Brandee Stripling. He is survived by his wife, of 44 years, Faye Hobson Clements, daughters Cindy Blake (Brian), Melisa Porter, Pam Snipes (Billy) and Carol Dollar, son Ernie Porter (Carla) and Jessie Stallworth, 16 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.

Mr. Clements' grandsons will serve as active pallbearers. The family wishes to recognize Dr. Leonard Jones, Dr. Anne Lewis, Dr. Potts, Dr. Fair, (caregivers) Kiri Kelly and Anne Horton, the Coaling Fire Department and the Staff of Hospice of West Alabama with the most special of thanks.
