James A. Clevinger

JAMES A. CLEVINGER, 84, of Vansant, VA, passed away Thursday, October 30, 2025, at his home following a brief illness. Born in Buchanan County, he was the son of the late Turl and Alice (McClanahan) Clevinger. He was a lifelong resident of Buchanan County and was of the Old Regular Baptist faith. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and was a retired coal miner. James enjoyed gardening, spending time with his family and tending his bees.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Violet Hazel (Looney) Clevinger; Daughter: Sheila Kay Lease; Sister: Lois Matney; Brothers: Virgil Clevinger, Estil Celvinger, Herbert Clevinger and Earnie Clevinger.
Those left to cherish his memory include Daughter: Peggy Sue (Doug) Clevinger of Maxie, VA; Sons: James Edward (Crystal) Clevinger of Pennsylvania and David Allen Clevinger (fiancée Edith Lester) of Harman, VA; Sister: Ann Stiltner of Slate Creek, VA; Brothers: Vernal Clevinger of Vansant, VA, Larry Clevinger of Big Rock, VA, Emil Clevinger of Maxie, VA.
Also, survived by several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel Monday evening at 6:00 P.M. with services at 7:00 P.M.
Funeral Services for JAMES A. CLEVINGER will be conducted Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at 1:00 P.M. at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel with Brothers: Roger Coleman, Mark Justice, Larry Puckett, Toy Looney officiating with burial to follow in Mountain Valley Memorial Park, Big Rock, VA.
Active Pallbearers will be family and friends.
