ETHEL M. (WYATT) HALE, 98, of Grundy, VA, went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, November 5, 2025, at the Johnston Memorial Hospital, Abingdon, VA. Born in West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Cummins Brown and Eunice (Vance) Wyatt. She was a lifelong resident of Buchanan County and was a member of the Buchanan First Presbyterian Church since 1937 where she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. Ethel enjoyed bowling and golf and was previously active in the Grundy Woman's Club and was Chair for Operation Smile, Girl Scouts of America and Brownies. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family, and was just days away from her 99th Birthday.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. "Bob" Hale; Sisters: Mary Edith Wyatt Gilliam, Bea Wyatt Chambers, Mable Wyatt Charles; Brothers: Stafford Wyatt, James Wyatt, C.P. "Abey" Wyatt and Henry Franklin Wyatt.
Those left to cherish her memory include Daughters: Barbara Hale Wiley of Grundy, VA, Brenda Hale (Curtis) Bledsoe of Blountville, TN, Bobbie Hale of Grundy, VA; Grandchildren: Robert Lance (Peggy) Wiley and Tiffany Wiley (Chad) Cleland; Great-Grandchildren: Robert Quinlan Wiley, Taylor Reece Cleland and Charles Jackson Cleland; Special Caregiver: Rebecca Farmer.
Also, survived by her special feline companion, Sugar and several nieces and nephews.
Special Thanks to Alex Hurley (Nurse Practitioner), the Buchanan General Physical Therapy and Home Health Departments.
Visitation will be held at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel Saturday evening at 6:00 P.M.
Funeral Services for ETHEL M. (WYATT) HALE will be conducted Sunday, November 9, 2025, at 1:00 P.M. at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel with Shirley Keene and Gerald Lester officiating with entombment to follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens, Claypool Hill, VA.
Active Pallbearers will be grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Eddie Stiltner, Tim Elswick, Sherry Looney, Roger Garrett, Gene Wiley, Douglas Price, Steve Gilliam and Darrell Wyatt.
