Nellie I. Childress

NELLIE I. (O'QUINN) CHILDRESS, 88, of Slope Street in North Tazewell, VA, passed away Wednesday, November 5, 2025, at the Roanoke Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. Born in Grundy, VA, she was the daughter of the late Willie O'Quinn and Judy (Keen) O'Quinn. She was a longtime resident of Tazewell County and was of the Primitive Baptist faith. She retired from Walmart, enjoyed gardening, working in her flower bed, riding her lawnmower and spending time with her family. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Ralph Childress; Brothers: Charlie O'Quinn, Ephraim O'Quinn, Jesse O'Quinn, Thomas H. O'Quinn, Edgar Frank O'Quinn and B. Hassel O'Quinn; Sisters: Eva Yates, Fannie Deel and Josephine O'Quinn; Sons: Gerald Scott Childress and Timothy Dean Childress; Grandparents: George M. O'Quinn and Nellie O'Quinn.
Visitation will be held at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel Friday evening at 6:00 P.M. with services at 7:00 P.M.
Graveside Services for NELLIE I. (O'QUINN) CHILDRESS will be conducted Saturday, November 8, 2025, at 1:00 P.M. at the Childress & Viers Cemetery on Slope Street, North Tazewell, with Brothers: Kent Viers, Kelly McGuire and Jack Angles officiating with burial to follow.
Active Pallbearers will be family and friends.
