DANNY SCOTT SCAMMELL, 54 years of age of Maxie, VA, passed away Monday, November 3, 2025, at the St. Marys Medical Center, Huntington, WV, following a sudden illness. Born March 2, 1971, in Grundy, VA, he was the son of Rose (Stiltner) Scammell of Maxie, VA, and the late Danny Scammell. He was a lifelong resident of Buchanan County and was a graduate of Grundy Senior High School Class of 1990. He worked at Excel Mining for over 20 years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, cars, motorcycles and collecting knives. He was a loving son, father and grandfather.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by sister, Lisa Ann Scammell Church.
Those left to cherish his memory include his mother, Rose (Stiltner) Scammell of Maxie, VA; Daughters: Angel Garrick (partner Keith Coleman) of Vansant, VA, Marissa Scammell (partner Anthony Stiltner) of Grundy, VA; Sons: Devin Scammell (partner Courtney Scott) of Slate Creek, VA, Matthew Scammell of Grundy, VA, and Daymon Scammell of Pikeville, KY; Grandchildren: Bentley, Payson, Kylia, Kaylee, Rylee, Roman, Aurora, Averiana and Hayden; Nieces and Nephews: Cody Church (Partner Tiffany), Caleb Church, Chynna Church (partner Zack Caudill), Darcy (Jason) Ratliff of Grundy, VA; Great-Niece: Layla Church.
Visitation will be held at the Poplar Creek Church of Christ Thursday evening at 6:00 P.M. with services at 7:00 P.M.
Funeral Services for DANNY SCOTT SCAMMELL will be conducted Friday, November 7, 2025, at 1:00 P.M. at the Poplar Creek Church of Christ with Evg. Jim Belcher and J.R. Elswick officiating with burial to follow in the Stiltner Cemetery on Orchard Road, Harman, VA.
Active Pallbearers will be Devin Scammell, Daymon Scammell, Anthony Stiltner, Jason Ratliff, Keith Coleman, Zack Caudill, Jon Deel and Shawn Looney.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Larry Stiltner, Eddie Stiltner, Grover Stiltner, Bentley Ratliff, Matthew Scammell, Randy Yates, Michael Stiltner, Jeff Stiltner, David Scammell, Chris Scammell, Cody Church, Caleb Church and David Church.
