DONALD LEE LAYNE, 85, of Oakwood, VA, went to his heavenly home on Sunday, November 2, 2025. Born April 19, 1940, at Patterson in Buchanan County, VA, he was the son of the late Virgil Clyde and Lola Griffith Layne.
Donald was a loyal servant of God & a member of Big Branch Church of Christ. He was employed by United Coal Company until his retirement. He was involved in the church and the community throughout his life. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and a loving and caring person.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife Shirley Thompson Layne; brother, Dallas Layne; brother-in-law & sister, Frank H. & Ruby Jean Ratliff; baby sisters, Shirley & Edith Layne; and his niece, Angela Thea Layne Abitz.
He is survived by his daughter, Kimberly Layne Rasnake of Abingdon, VA; son, Donald Lee Layne II of Grundy, VA; grandsons, Gabriel (Vanessa) Rasnake of Abingdon, VA; Alex Rasnake of Abingdon, VA; granddaughters, Madison Rasnake of Wilmington, NC; Ainsley Willow Layne of Grundy, VA; and sister, Garnette Ann Stewart of Roanoke, VA.
Also, survived by several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Saturday from 12:00 to 1:00 P.M. at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel.
Funeral Services for DONALD LEE LAYNE will be conducted Saturday, November 8, 2025, at 1:00 P.M. at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel with Evg. Stanley Smith officiating with burial to follow in Mountain Valley Memorial Park, Big Rock, VA.
Active Pallbearers will be family and friends.
