Joann S. Childress, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and faithful servant of Jesus Christ, passed away peacefully in her home on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was 86 years old.
A celebration of her life will be held 2:00PM, Saturday, November 1, 2025 in the chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory with Rev. Paul Thomas and Rev. Bud Rupal officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907. Interment will be held at Parkhill Cemetery following the service.
Joann lived her life with a heart full of love and faith. Her greatest joy was her family, whom she cherished deeply. Whether she was cooking Sunday dinners, cheering on her grandchildren, or offering a listening ear, her warmth and kindness touched everyone she met. She also enjoyed cross stitching, gardening and loving on her fur baby Harley. Her faith in Jesus guided her every step. She was a steadfast member of Evangel Church, where she worshiped faithfully and served others with grace and humility. Her strength, gentle spirit, and unwavering belief in God’s goodness were an inspiration to all who knew her.
Joann is survived by her son, Robert C. Childress, daughter, Linda Sheheane, daughter Frances Papenfuss (Greg), and daughter Cathy Fuller (Loren). She is also survived by her brother Clyde Sharpe (Debra), 3 grandsons and 5 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her loving parents. Though our hearts are heavy, we rejoice in knowing that she is now home with her Savior, where there is no pain—only peace and everlasting joy.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Columbus Hospice in her memory. Her love will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
