Thomas G. Rund Esq. was born December 9, 1946 in St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Washington Heights to the proud parents of Walter A. Rund and Catherine Rund (nee Rooney). As a child, Tom attended Sacred Heart School on Nelson Avenue in the Bronx. He was the last remaining member of his immediate family that included his brother, Walter, and sisters, Jackie and Joyce. Tom leaves behind his loving wife, Lucille Rund (née Smith), four children, Thomas (Kate), William (Kathleen), Kevin and Kathleen and eight grandchildren Molly, Benjamin, Ethan, Lilly, Chloe, Jack, Kaleigh and Emily.

After completing grade school and all of his sacraments at Sacred Heart, Tom joined his mother and stepfather, Leonard Maher, in their new home in West Islip on Long Island. After graduating West Islip High School in 1964 (barely, as he puts it), he spent two years at Suffolk Community College. Not finding much success in his academics, Tom enlisted in the United States Army with the goal of being a paratrooper. After completing basic training at Fort Gordon in Augusta Georgia, Tom was transferred to Fort Bragg in Fayetteville, NC and then to Fort Benning in Columbus Georgia for Basic Airborne Training with the 101st Airborne Division. Tom was quickly promoted from Private E-2 to Private First Class E-3, ultimately promoted to Specialist E-5. He was released with Honorable Discharge from the Army on June 10, 1969.

Thomas and Lucille were married on October 4, 1969, the same year the Jets won the Super Bowl and despite never winning again, they remained married for 57 years. Throughout the 70’s, Tom’s life saw vast growth as he became oriented towards raising a family and earning degrees. With their first child being born in 1972, their second in 1975, and third being born in the blizzard of 1978, Tom finished his undergraduate degree at C.W. Post while selling Johnson and Johnson products door to door in the Bronx.

Tom immediately started St. John’s Law School in September of 1977. With their fourth child and only daughter born in August of 1980, Tom would graduate soon after with his law degree. He was also an Executive Board Member of the Babylon Yacht Club, serving as the Commodore for two years, 1997-1998. After practicing law for thirty years, Tom decided to retire and moved to Bluffton, South Carolina where he resided for the remainder of his days. He passed away at home in the evening of March 20, 2026, the first day of spring, in the company of Lucille and daughter, Katie.

An avid lover of the outdoors and family, one of Tom’s favorite places is the south side of the Great South Bay, near the Robert Moses Bridge, with his family. He will be dearly missed but his legacy will live on well beyond his years in his children and grandchildren.
