James Phillip Colbert, of Covington, passed away Sunday, January 4, 2026, at the age of 84. Mr. Colbert was a devoted family man who found his greatest joy in the outdoors and in time spent with those he loved. He had a deep love for fishing, beekeeping, gardening, hunting, and reading, and there was hardly a question about the outdoors he couldn’t answer. Having read every Foxfire book, his knowledge and wisdom were well known and often shared. He especially cherished trips to Alaska for salmon fishing and memorable days fishing at the Judy Hole. When not outdoors, he enjoyed working on puzzles and spending quiet, meaningful time with his family. Mr. Colbert will be remembered for his curiosity, self-reliance, and the love he had for both nature and family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jimmy and Pete Colbert; brother, Len Colbert; niece, Wendy McKinley.
Survivors include his wife, Debra Colbert; sons, Shane Colbert (Debbie), Chris Cannon (Stephanie); daughter, Sherri Anglin; daughters, Tracy Phillips (Bill), Shelia Smith (Doug); grandchildren, Jennifer McKenna, Danyelle Kramer (Matt), Alexis Adams, Daniel Anglin, Cody Anglin (Maria), Lee Cannon, Kylie Cannon, Savannah Crawford; great-grandchildren, Owen McKenna, Madison Kramer, Daleny Kramer, Kyle Ferguson, Sofia Anglin, Will Crawford.
