James Lee Compton, age 64, passed away due to complications with a stroke on Friday, December 5, 2025 at St. David’s in Austin, Texas. His wife, Deanna; his two sons, Roland and Jared; and Jared’s girlfriend, Meaghan; were with him at the time of his passing.
Jim is survived by his wife, two sons, and daughter, Anna. Also keeping remembrance of him are his family members: brother Chuck and Robin Compton of Hubert, NC; sister Gloria and Al Gonzalez of Charlotte, MI; sister Loretta and Ken Sokolowski of Huntsville, AL; sister Sheila and Bob Hayes of Fruitport, MI; in-laws Bob & Deb Loomis and Denise Nalepka; as well as slews of nieces and nephews.
Jim lived out his dream as the owner and operator of White Harbor Kennels in Muskegon, Michigan for the past two decades. He spent his career with GE Health Care in Milwaukee, Las Vegas, Lexington, Roscommon and Muskegon. He was passionate about dogs and fishing. He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman.
After moving this year to Texas, Jim lived with his human family and his family of pets, including three cats and his beloved golden retriever, Dante (with Dante’s brother, Tyr, visiting often). Jim also loved to cook and always made fabulous, delicious, and imaginative casseroles.
Memorial services will be held privately. If you feel the need to give, please donate to your local animal shelter in his honor.
