James Conley Obituary
James A. Conley passed away peacefully on December 26, 2025, at his residence in Fort Montgomery, NY. He was 78 years old. Son of the late Elmer and Mary (Miller) Conley, he was born on December 17, 1947, in Pearl River, NY.
James served his country with pride in the U.S. Navy from 1966 to 1970 during the Vietnam War, exemplifying bravery and dedication. After receiving his Honorable Discharge, he became the owner and operator of Elmer's Electric, then James Conley Electric, serving as a master electrician.
Left to cherish his memory are his devoted wife, Marlene H. Conley of Fort Montgomery, NY; children, Michael Conley and his wife, Charissa, of Highland Falls, NY; Russell Conley and his wife, Melissa, of Newburgh, NY; and Melanie Bennett and her husband, Stephen, of Niskayuna, NY; sister, Jean Johnston of North Carolina, his beloved grandchildren; Jordan Conley, Bastian Conley, Samarah Conley and Natalie Bennett; and constant companion Charlie the cat. In addition to his parents, James was also predeceased by his sister, Marion Sabins.
James, known as "Poppy," to his family, was a hard worker, dedicated member of the community and a true family man. He had many friends and could always be counted on in any situation. James lived his life by the mantra "Solutions, not excuses." He had a deep passion for cooking, which he shared not only with his family but also with any family in need. His generosity, sense of humor, and commitment to helping others left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. on Friday, January 2, 2026, at William F. Hogan Funeral Home, 135 Main Street, Highland Falls, NY. A Funeral Service will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Eagle Valley Cemetery, located in Highland Falls, NY.
Memorial contributions may be made to The American Diabetes Association, www.diabetes.org, and the American Heart Association, www.heart.org.
