James William Connolly, born on July 8th 1950 in Trenton, Michigan – passed away in his hometown on July 5th, 2025 – just shy of his 75th birthday.

Mr. Connolly was a dedicated Artilleryman of the U.S. Army 1st Cavalry Division based in Ft. Hood, Texas. He worked in the steel industry many years as an overhead crane operator, and also for the City of Romulus Water Department. Keeping him from getting a job done was a tall order. Graduating from Trenton High with the class of 68, he proudly wore the badge of Downriver Rat, and dearly loved all the friends he grew up with.

Jimmy was a man of many passions. He cherished the times up north, visiting Mackinac, camping with family, as well as his days living in Fairview and Oscoda. Constantly surrounding himself in music, he loved listening to and collecting albums – always reciting lyrics and singing. He performed as lead vocalist in several bands along with his friends. He was a huge fan of all of Detroit's sports teams, especially the Red Wings, and loved Michigan State – always chanting – "Go Green! Go White!" in the background.

James was known for his sense of humor, always trying to get people to laugh. Long hours spent playing cards or watching classic movie after movie was his idea of a great day. While he spent years telling stories about how he would move to a tropical island, he was always proudly rooted in Michigan. Loving to talk about all the great places to visit in our state, and sites that used to be popular but are now part of history.

He was preceded in death by his parents William Connolly and Dolores Lempke, and sister Coreen Walmsley and her husband Paul.

James leaves behind a legacy of family, survived by his children Shannon, Justin, Sean and Eric Connolly, along with his stepchildren Anna and Bobby Lewis. His memory will also be cherished by his grandchildren Blake, Arielle, and Delaney – as well as his great-grandson Leo. Also surviving is his sister Beverly Chinavare, several nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends. His family will forever hold him dear in their hearts.

James William Connolly will be remembered fondly by all whose lives he touched, leaving behind a tapestry of memories filled with laughter, music and love
