James Coots Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Melcher Sowers Funeral Home on Mar. 2, 2026.
Beloved Son, Brother and Dad, James R. Coots of Piqua went to be with the Lord on February 26,2026 at the age of 55. He leaves behind his loving parents Bobby R. and Sharon (Johns) Coots of Piqua, OH; his sisters and brother, Barbara Nicodemus, Cathy Alexander, Deanna Rike and Christopher Coots; sons and daughter, Bobby R. Coots II, James R. Coots II, and Abigail Miller (Kirian); as well as many nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews.

James was a man of the outdoors. Whether he was fishing with family or working outside, this is where he most felt himself. He had a deep, quite connection with nature and animals. His spirit animal, the wolf; tattooed on display for all to see, representing loyalty and a wild spirit, known for that wild spirit that he lived by. His energy and cleverness were undeniable. There was always a way when told "No". He loved to have fun with and laugh with his children and friends, and he would always make sure everyone had a good time. He is free now and running with the wolves.

The family will receive friends to honor the life of James from 5:00 pm to 6:00pm on Thursday, March 5,2026 at Melcher-Sowers Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made in honor of James to: Dayton Children's Medical Center 1 Children's Plaza, Dayton, OH 45404. St. Jude Children's Hospital (Columbus) 1404 Goodale Blvd #200, Columbus, OH 43212.
