James Clinton Copen, Sr. 75, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 1:15 am May 9, 2024 at his residence. He was born March 28, 1949 in Saint Clair County, Illinois to the late James Edward and Cherlene Palma (Wallace) Copen.
James is survived by the mothers of his children, Mildred Motes of Waltonville, Illinois and Linda Debeaux of Marble Hill, Missouri; children, Bonnie Green and husband, Gerald of Mount Dora, Florida, Christina Wolf and husband, Shannon of Mount Vernon, Illinois, Kathleen Bryant of Dix, Illinois, James Copen, Jr of Jefferson City, Missouri, Patti Copen of Missouri, and Palma Copen-Skaggs of Marble Hill, Missouri; step daughter, Rebecca Phillips of Waltonville, Illinois; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.
Mr. Copen proudly served his country in the United States Army. James loved rock n roll and Elvis. He enjoyed fishing, bowling, and muscle cars and will be missed.
A Visitation will be held Friday, May 17, 2024 from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois.
