James Cosgrove of Winona, MN passed away at home on July 11, 2023 of complications of Cancer. He is survived by his parents, James and Constance of Summerville, SC, sister and brother-in-law, Shannon and Geoffrey Pass of Winona, MN, sister and brother-in-law, Amy and Anthony Russo of Wesley Chapel, FL and sister and brother-in-law, Laura and Michael Hicks of Virginia Beach, VA as well as countless nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. James was preceded in death by his grandparents Hilda Ward, Stella Nekrasz, James E. Cosgrove, and James Ward. James had a very special bond with his grandmother Hilda Ward and his late aunts Rosemarie Ofiesh and Dian Burick.
James was born in Wilkes-Barre, PA, but spent the majority of his childhood and young adulthood in Baltimore, MD. He graduated from Calvert Hall High School, where he was a member of the Marching and Jazz Bands, in 1981. He enlisted in The Army and was stationed overseas in Germany and in CA. Following his Honorable Discharge, he earned his Culinary Arts degree from the Baltimore Culinary School of the Arts. Although he was a talented Chef, his other passions included music, animals and literature. James played trumpet, piano and guitar as well as arranged music for many events and religious ceremonies. He was an avid reader who was deeply interested in history and politics. Although James never married, his kin included several fur babies including Taco, Liggett, Meow Fu, and Buddy, to name a few. Services to remember James will be 11 a.m., Tuesday, July 18, 2023 at Hoff Celebration of Life Center - Goodview with the Reverend Michael Cronin officiating. Visitation will be 10 a.m., until the time of the service. A final commitment service will be held at Mepkin Abbey, Monks Corner SC at a later date.
