James Michael “Mike” Covington, 82, of Rockingham, NC, completed his earthly journey on Saturday, February 21, 2026 at Hospice Haven in Rockingham.
Mike was born May 8, 1943 in Richmond County, a son of the late James Edwin and Katherine Louise Morgan Covington. Mike proudly served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam War. He for many years was a car salesman and retired from Bowles Furniture Company. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two of his children, Kelli Samantha Covington Osborne and Cheston Brian Covington.
Surviving are his wife, Sharon Hinkle Covington; children, Tracy Covington Hamilton (Tim) and James Michael Covington, Jr. (Allen Cribb); grandchildren, Lucas Hamilton (Hannah), Lauren Hamilton Alley (John), Dustin Osborne, Tianna Smith (Bradley), Dillon Covington (Julie), Megan Covington, Morgan Covington; great grandchildren, Addison Grace Smith, Liam Hamilton, Ada Jane Alley; his sister, Barbara Homesley; stepchildren, Thomas Weatherford (Karen) and Levi Chavis (Judy), step grandchildren, Thomas Heath Weatherford (Megan), Jennifer Singletary (Robbie), Brittany Rector (Josh), Courtney Cooper (Casey), Kaitlyn Chavis (Robert), Timothy Chavis; step great grandchildren, Hayden Rose Weatherford, Harper Jane Weatherford, and Carter Cooper.
The family will receive friends from 11:45 am – 12:45 pm Wednesday, February 25, 2026 at Mt. Olive Baptist Church with funeral services to follow at 1:00 pm. Rev. Brian Blackwell will officiate. Interment with Military Honors will follow in Eastside Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Richmond County Hospice, 1119 US Hwy 1 N, Rockingham, NC 28379.
