James “Jimmy” Michael Cox of Prescott Valley, Arizona died Sunday, November 5th following a brief illness.  He was predeceased by his father, Donald Keith Cox, Sr, whom he adored, by only 5 months.  He is survived by his mother, Catherine Helen Cox, brothers, Donald (Sarah), Bill (Cindy), Alan, Mark (Lisa), and sister, Kathleen Cull (Tim).  Also left behind to mourn his loss are his many nieces and nephews: Donnie, Cheri (Pedro), Ryan (Jessica), Shawn (Lauren), Isaac, Elliot (Julia), Corinn and Abigail, as well as several great nieces and nephews: Caitlin, Ella, Cara, Caroline, Julia, Alex, Corbin, Callum, Carson, Kelilah  and Elijah.  He always had a faithful dog by his side and his current dog, Brando , is also mourning his loss.

After graduating from Saguaro High School in 1985, he worked alongside his brothers in their various plant nursery businesses.  He then, along with his brother, Alan and his parents started Prescott Valley Growers, in Prescott Valley, some thirty years ago.  He helped build Prescott Valley Growers into a thriving business with both a wholesale and retail operation.  He loved living in Prescott Valley and working with his parents in the business. It meant everything to him.  He treated his employees like family, and, they too, are mourning his loss.

Jimmy never married, instead he spent the majority of his time building the business and working alongside his parents, eventually caring for them as they aged.  His dedication to his parents was unparalleled.  He was also a man of faith, following in his parents’ footsteps, and was a faithful Catholic. Outside of work, he enjoyed being on his boat and fishing and trips to their home in Mexico.

A viewing will begin at 11:30 am at the Whitney Murphy Funeral Home, 4800 E. Indian School Rd., Phoenix, on November 13th.  A graveside service be held at Holy Redeemer Cemetery, 23015 Cave Creek Rd., Phoenix, immediately following the viewing.

Jimmy’s unexpected death reminds us all that life is too short, and we should make that call to our friends or loved ones, take that trip to visit family, immerse ourselves in the world around us and enjoy every day to the fullest.
