James Cox Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 24, 2025.
James L. (Jim) Cox of Johns Creek, GA passed away on Nov. 18, 2025. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Martha Adams Cox and Richard F. Cox, and his brother, Richard F. Cox, Jr. Jim was born in Ashland, KY, on June 3, 1941, but spent most of his youth growing up in Auburn, KY where his parents had a small variety store. Jim was a good student and attended high school in nearby Bowling Green, KY. He graduated from Bowling Green High School in 1959, and went back to Bowling Green High for several class reunions over the years. After high school, Jim was accepted to Georgia Tech in Atlanta, GA, where he attended for one year. Jim began his work career with the state Highway department of Georgia and then went on to work for Dinkins-Davidson Hardware Co. This first job in the builders hardware field was the beginning of his lifelong work in the builders hardware industry. In 1970 Jim became a partner in a manufacturer's representative firm, Robertson & Cox Associates. After Mr. Robertson's retirement, Jim renamed the company James L. Cox & Associates. Jim represented several leading manufacturers of builders hardware, as well door and door security manufacturers. Jim continued this work until his retirement in 2005. Jim met his wife of sixty-three years, Nancy Wade Cox, shortly after coming to Atlanta. They married in her hometown of Owensboro, KY, on Sept. 16, 1962. In addition to his wife, Jim is also survived by his two children, Lisa Ann Cox, and James L. (Jimmy) Co, Jr., and four grandchildren, Melissa Erin Cox, James Lewis Cox, III, David Griffin Cox, and William Adams Cox. Jim was a fifty year member of Masonic Lodge, F&AM 444, Chamblee, GA, he was an Architectural Hardware Consultant (AHC), and a faithful sixty-two year member of Peachtree Christian Church in Midtown Atlanta. Jim loved his church work and served in many leadership roles over the years, including Deacon, Elder, Chairman of the Worship Committee, Vice Chair of the Board of Elders and Deacons, Chairman of the Board of Elders and Deacons, Chair of the Executive Committee, and Chair of the Elders. In addition to his church work Jim liked to hunt and fish and enjoyed his time with his hunting and fishing buddies, and his weekly prayer group buddies. A memorial service for James L. Cox will be held on Friday, Dec. 12, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Peachtree Christian Church, 1580 Peachtree St., NW, Atlanta, GA 30309, with reception to follow. Cox, James Lewis "Jim"
