Marshall Walker Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 22, 2025.
Marshall Peteet Walker, 90, passed away at his home in Madison, Georgia, on November 20, 2025. Born at Walkerest Plantation on July 31, 1935, he was the youngest son of Pierre Gautier Walker and Anne Barrett Walker, a sixth generation Georgian, and one of the founding families of Morgan County and Madison.

Marshall attended early school in Madison, with a high school diploma from the Darlington School, Rome, Georgia, before completing an advanced degree in Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology. He was a noted Kappa Alpha fraternity member, and part of the KA Gymnasium Team, where he gained a lifetime love of health and exercise.

Over the course of the next 40 years, Marshall worked with several large corporations in management and executive positions, including a lauded tenure at Union Camp Corporation in the Forest Products Division. He retired in 1999 to start his own company, Southern Mortgage and Real Estate, spending the next 25 years developing commercial, residential, and timberland deals here and abroad. He was a tireless force in industry and real estate throughout his life. He also served on the Board of Morgan Memorial Hospital, the Economic Development Committee of Morgan County and Economic Board of Morgan County.

Marshall was a lifetime member of the Madison Baptist Church, initially constructed from bricks fired at Walkerest, having ridden his bike alone from the Walton House in Madison for his baptism when he was ten years old. Marshall also assisted in the layout and landscaping of Callaway Gardens with his father Pierre G. Walker, and his first cousin, Cason J. Callaway.

He is predeceased by his parents, Pierre G. Walker and Anne Barrett Walker, as well as his brothers, Peter G. Walker, and Barrett L. Walker. Marshall is survived by his wife of 57 years, Marilyn Appl Walker, who he considered his most loyal and loving lifetime partner.

In addition to his loving wife, Marshall is survived by four children: Caroline Walker Wilhelm; Marshall Peteet Walker, Jr. (Catherine); Garth Gilchrist Walker; and Pierre G. Walker (Nathalie), as well as eighteen grandchildren, Lauren E. Wilhelm, Dr. Marshall K. Walker (Courtney), Ellen Walker Perkins, Aurora Walker (Gideon), Zachery Austin, Augustus Walker, Noelle Walker, William Walker, Camille Walker, Victoria Walker, Benjamin Jensen, Cameron Walker, Felicia Walker, Sean Walker, Imogen Walker, Juliet Walker, Anastasia Campeau, Josephine Walker, and eight great-grandchildren, Marshall K. Walker, Jr., Garrett Walker, Meredith Walker, Gwendolyn Walker, Sunny Perkins, Julian Perkins, Audrey Walker, and Levis Walker.

A private ceremony will be held graveside at Madison Memorial Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Anxiety & Depression Association of America (adaa.org.), or donate to the Madison Baptist Church (madisonbc.org).

What an obituary! Such a great man! So many accomplishments! My sincerest condolences to my cousins, Marshall, Garth, and Pierre. I do remember Uncle Marshall from when I was a little girl. I remember him as being very nice and funny, making me laugh. While reading his obituary, I was extremely pleased to see that he was a committed Christian and I look forward to seeing him in Heaven! What a true blessing to be assured of where he is now and in whose presence he is in. My love and sympathy to all of you, Ellen Gilchrist Bullard
