James Holcomb Obituary

James A. (Jim) Holcomb, Jr. of Marietta, Georgia, entered the
gates of Heaven on Wednesday evening, November 19, 2025.
He was born on October 30, 1933 in Atlanta, Georgia, the oldest
son of the late James A. Holcomb, Sr and Mary Emma Echols
Holcomb.
Jim is survived by his wife, Shirley Lamb Holcomb of Marietta,
Daughter, Debbie Turner (Jimmy) of The Villages, Florida,
Daughter, Julie Harris (Glenn) of Ormond Beach, Florida, and
Son, James Preston Holcomb (Aileen Kronke) of Marietta. He is
also survived by his brother, Richard A. Holcomb of Tacoma,
Washington, five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, two
great-great grandchildren, two nieces and one nephew.
Jim loved and served his Lord and Savior first and foremost and
was a devoted and loving husband to his wife Shirley for 73
years. He was a loving and caring father and grandfather and the
Christian leader of his family. He was a member of Gospel
Reformed Church in Marietta. He previously served as a deacon
and an elder at Smyrna Presbyterian Church. Jim and his wife
spent a number of years living in Rosman, NC, while working at
Ridgehaven Conference Center, their denomination's camp and
conference facility. While living there, Jim was instrumental in
helping to plant a new church, Cornerstone Presbyterian Church.
Jim was a graduate of West Fulton High School, Atlanta, Georgia
and the Georgia Institute of Technology, graduating in 1957 with
an Electrical Engineering degree. Throughout his life, he loved
watching Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket football. After serving in
the ROTC while at Tech, he graduated as a commissioned officer
in the US Army. He served 6 months active duty and 6 ½ years in
the active Reserves. Jim began working for Georgia Power
Company in December 1951 as a co-op student and retired from
Georgia Power in March 1989.
After his retirement, Jim and his wife were able to enjoy traveling.
The highlights of their travel included trips to Berlin, Germany,
Athens, Greece, Normandy, Venice, London and Paris. They
also were able to take their grandchildren on memorable trips to
the western United States, Washington, DC, Disneyworld, and
Seaworld. Jim enjoyed the beach and spending time at their
vacation home near Panama City, Florida.
The positive impact of Jim's life extended beyond his family. He
was well-respected by all who knew him as a man who always put
his Savior, Jesus Christ, as his priority. In the 1970's, he, along
with his wife, helped form a teen musical group called The New
Life Singers in Smyrna, Georgia. He was a role model and a
positive influence to many teens, always serving as a positive
influence. He will be sadly missed by his wife, family and all who
knew him. However, he has won the victory and now rejoices
with his Savior!
A funeral service will be 11 AM Saturday in the Chapel of Carmichael Funeral Home in Marietta with Rev. Mic Knox and Charles Dunahoo officiating. Burial will be at 2 PM at Macedonia Memorial Park in Canton after the Service.
The family will receive friends from 5:30 PM to 8 PM on Friday, November 21, 2025 at the Carmichael Funeral Home in Marietta. www.carmichaelcares.com, 770-424-4924.
