James (Jim/Butch) Michael Dailey Sr., age 82, joined his Heavenly Father on December 13, 2025. He was born on October 7, 1943.

Upon graduating from New Albany High School, Jim enlisted in the United States Air Force. After receiving an Honorable Discharge, he returned home and served as a police officer with the New Albany Police Department. Jim later left the force to further his education, earning his bachelor's degree from the University of Evansville in 1969. He continued his graduate studies at Indiana State University, where he earned a degree in psychology.

With his degrees in hand, Jim became a professor of psychology at Vincennes University. He also shared his love of golf by serving as the coach of the Vincennes University golf team. Following his retirement, Jim relocated to the Phoenix, Arizona area before eventually returning to his hometown, where he established his permanent residence. He spent his later years enjoying golf and spending time with friends at the local VFW.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, John "Mike" and Jean Dailey of New Albany; his brother, Jerry Dailey of Hopkinsville, KY; and his sisters, Joan (Barbara) Miller of Chattanooga, TN, and Jeanette (Mickey) Hosier of Clarksville, IN.

He is survived by his daughter, Cheri Lynn McCann of Nineveh, IN, and his son, James Michael Dailey Jr. of Scottsdale, AZ; his grandchildren, Kathleen McCann, Mary Kate Wilson, Aaron McCann, Matthew Dailey, and Derick Dailey; and his siblings, Judy Voignier (Charles) of Sellersburg, Jon Dailey of Greenwood, Jackie Glassman of Scottsburg, and Jeanie Ettel of New Albany. Jim is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Scotts Funeral Home of Jeffersonville is entrusted with arrangements. Interment will take place on Monday, January 26, 2026, at 1:00 PM at the National Cemetery, located at 1943 Ekin Avenue, New Albany, Indiana.
