James Armon Dallas, 87, of Chattanooga, formerly of Memphis and Jackson, Tennessee; New Alexandria, Pennsylvania; Fort Mill, South Carolina; and Tybee Island, Georgia, passed away at home on November 11, 2025. He was Granddaddy or BooDaddy to his favorite people, his grandchildren, Brian Sirnic (Haley), Teresa Israel (Cavin), Simon Dallas (Christine), Max Dallas, Karli Dallas, Daryn Dallas, and Jeramy Dallas. He is remembered as a knowledgeable and entertaining storyteller. He loved history especially the local history of the places he lived and visited, the Civil War, and indigenous peoples. He never passed a fort or battlefield he didn't want to visit. His love of history and sharing through stories inspired a love of history in many around him.

Jim was born in Memphis, Tennessee, on May 4, 1938, to Mary Tatum Dallas Ledbetter and Grace L. Dallas. He graduated from Humes High School in 1956, attended University of Tennessee Martin, and graduated from Point Park University in Pittsburgh. He was a Navy veteran who served in the submarine service on the USS Darter (SS-576) and sub tender USS Fulton. After the Navy, he worked for Westinghouse Electric Corporation and retired after 25 years. After retiring from Westinghouse, he, along with his wife Peggy, started a new career dealing in antiques.

He was preceded in death by his parents, step-father OA Ledbetter and son Hugh Lawrence (Larry) Dallas. He is survived by his wife of 67 years Peggy Ruth Morris Dallas, sons Samuel Dallas (Amanda) and David Dallas (Melissa), daughter Christine Dallas Grimm (Bart), brother Robert Dallas, and his grandchildren.
