Beaty Funeral Home - MineolaJames Weldon Darst Jr., a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully from natural causes on November 8, 2025, at the age of 71. Born on November 30, 1953, in Dallas, Texas, James touched many lives with his warmth and kindness during his years in Mineola, where he resided for the last 26 years.
A proud veteran of the United States Navy, James served as a maintenance technician, achieving the rank of HT3 before his honorable discharge on November 23, 1978. His dedication to service was recognized with a letter of appreciation, a testament to his commitment and hard work. James carried this pride in his military service throughout his life as a badge of honor.
James married his beloved wife, Jewell, on January 18, 1980. Together, they built a life filled with laughter, love, and cherished memories. As a deacon at Silver Lake Fellowship, James found joy in nurturing his faith and connecting with his community. His unwavering spirit and generous heart were a guiding light to those who knew him.
James was an outdoorsman at heart. He revelled in the serenity of nature through fishing and hunting. In addition, he was a skilled leather worker and knife maker, pouring his creativity and passion into everything he touched. With each crafted piece, he left an indelible mark of artistry and care.
James was preceded in death by his father James Darst Sr., his mother Anna (Brigs) Darst, and his sister Jan Mayhan.
He is survived by his loving wife, Jewell Darst; his daughter, Angela Capps and her spouse Kevin, his son, Gary Capps and his spouse Kay; and his sister, Judy Ford. James is also survived by his cherished grandchildren, Austin and his spouse Ashley, Cody and his spouse Natalie, Colton and his spouse Brie, Caden, and Adrian and her spouse Marcus, along with nine great-grandchildren Daniel, Karlie, Waylon, Walker, Jersey, Charlie, Emerson, Weston, and Ty, who all brought immeasurable joy to his life.
A visitation honoring James' life will be held on November 13, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Silver Lake Fellowship and service to follow.
James Weldon Darst Jr. will be dearly missed, but his legacy will endure in the hearts of all who loved him. May he rest in eternal peace, forever remembered as a man of strength, integrity, and boundless love.
