"Big Jim"
James Warren Davis
James Warren Davis, affectionately known as "Big Jim", was born to loving parents Lucille and M.S Pete Davis on November 11, 1938 in Dallas, Texas. On May 17, 2025 at 10:38 am, surrounded by family, he went home to be with the Lord.
Jim was known for many things throughout his incredible life. He played football for the University of Oklahoma, served valiantly as a United States Marine, had a successful sales career, and faithfully served as a Deacon and Sunday School Teacher at Lake Highlands Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas. Above all, was a loving husband, devoted father, and exceptional grandad and great grandad.
Jim started playing football in grade school. The passion grew as he continued to play through his time at Tyler Junior High, where he met the love of his life Virginia. He was eventually a Center, Linebacker, and Guard at the University of Oklahoma where he played from 1956-1960.
Upon graduation, he served as a United States Marine. During his time of active duty service he was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant in December 1961 and released from active duty as 1st Lieutenant in December 1964. He was Discharged in 1970 as Captain.
A constant for the duration of his life was his love Virginia. Jim and Virginia married on August 15, 1959. They welcomed son James Warren Davis Jr. "Chip" on December 3, 1962 and son John Morgan Davis on June 24, 1966. Both sons welcomed two daughters.
Jim is preceded in death by Father M.S. "Pete" Davis", Mother Lucille Davis, sisters Pasty Vestal, and Nancy Vail. He is survived by Wife Virginia Davis, Sons James Warren Davis Jr. "Chip"and wife Nancyjo, John M. Davis and Wife Theresa Davis, Granddaughters Stephanie Shook, Amy Davis, Laura Davis, and Jamie Risteen, 7 great grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, and great-nieces/nephews.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 27 from 6-8 PM at Williams Funeral Directors in Garland, Tx. Services will be held Wednesday, May 28 at 10:30 AM at Lake Highlands Baptist Church. Graveside services will follow as Jim is laid to rest at Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery.
