James Davis Obituary

Published by Legacy on Jul. 23, 2025.
It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of James C. Davis, at his home in Canon City, CO on July 20, 2025. He was born July 11, 1935. In 1953 he graduated from Jefferson High School in Dresden, OH. Jim married the love of his life, Lorilee Griggs, in 1960. He pursued his education at Ohio State, University of Colorado and Columbia University.

While words can scarcely express the depth of this loss, we gather both in spirit and in memory to honor a life that touched so many. He radiated warmth and kindness to all who crossed his path. His compassionate heart was paired with a sharp mind and deep determination to accomplish any goal or project he dreamed. Jim worked at Steel Ceilings and Cyclops in Coshocton before moving to Colorado where he was Vice President of Republic National Bank, followed by President of Do-Ray Lamp. He then moved to Oil City, PA, and became Vice President of Quaker State Oil. When he retired, Jim and Lorilee moved back to his beloved Colorado where he resided until his death. He actually retired 5 times. His last two ventures, in which he took great pride, were developing Phase 8 in Dawson Ranch and Cranberry Park Town Homes in Canon City, both were very successful.

Jim was a man of many passions and loved sports, especially The Buckeyes, Indians and Browns. He also loved spending time at their mountain cabin with Lorilee and making many special memories with nature, friends and family. He also always looked forward to the Friday coffee gang outings and the stories they shared, the laughs they had and the friendships made.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Helen and Howard Davis; and his sister, Marjorie Lawler.

Per Jim's request, a cremation will take place and there will not be a funeral. He will be kept around in whichever room his urn matches.

A special thank you to our dear friends, Linda and Bob, Pam and Jack along with our other many friends and family for support during this difficult time.

I have known Jim for more years that I can count. I first met him when he was VP at Republic Bank. He helped me obtain financing for a Post Office building located in Creede, CO. I thought that a Pueblo Bank would not want to finance a property so far away from Pueblo. Jim was very professional and helped me thru all of the paperwork. That began a long friendship that I valued highly. Jim and I spoke on the phone for many years. My most recent conversation was several weeks age. He will be missed especially by his wife Lorilee and well as many other friends.
Rest in Peace, Jim.
