James Lee Deaton, age 98, of Bartlett, Tennessee, passed away on January 5, 2025.

James was born in Wichita Falls, Texas. He proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1946 to 1948, during the post–World War II occupation of Japan. In recognition of his service, he earned the World War II Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal (Japan).

Following his military service, James enjoyed a long and dedicated career as a lineman with BellSouth, from which he later retired. He was known for his strong work ethic, sense of duty, and commitment to providing for his family.

James was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Billie Jean Deaton, and his brother, Willie Deaton of Batesville, Mississippi.

He is survived by his sons, Mark Lee Deaton (Lynda) of Bartlett, Tennessee, and Michael Scott Deaton of Counce, Tennessee; his sister, Dorothy Fitts of Savannah, Tennessee; and his brother, Donald Deaton of Sumter, South Carolina.

James is also survived by his grandchildren, Scott Deaton, Taylor Hage of Dallas, Texas, and Brittany Deaton of Memphis, Tennessee, and his great-grandson, Kannon Deaton of Hopkinsville, Kentucky.

James will be remembered for his service to his country, his dedication to his work, and his devotion to his family
