Celebrating the Life of James Francis Delk Jr.
The world lost a remarkable soul on July 30, 2024, as James Francis Delk Jr. passed away in Fort Worth, Texas. Born on September 10, 1948, in Smithfield, Virginia, to the loving parents James and Edith Delk, he brought joy and kindness to all who were fortunate enough to cross his path.
James, was a proud member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity and pursued his education at Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In life, James embraced his passions, and found joy in hobbies such as fishing, golf, football, and politics. As an avid follower of ESPN, he never missed a game or sports update. His love for these activities reflected his vibrant spirit and zest for life.
James was a beloved husband to Thelma Frances Delk, whom he married on September 21, 1985, in Darby Township, Pennsylvania. He started his career as a typewriter repairman for Xerox. Then moved on to car salesman. From a car salesman he decided to step out on his own and open his own dealership Fairlane Ford named after his favorite car the Ford Fairlane. After retiring from the car business, he started a new career as a correctional officer for Allred state prison. After retiring from the prison, the Delk’s moved to Fort Worth where Jim would continue working as a Security Guard. First for Wise County Parkland Surgi-Center and then at Medical City Alliance. His second career showcased his commitment to keeping those around him safe.
James was preceded in death by his parents, James F. Delk Sr. and Edith L. Delk, and his granddaughter, Morgan Delk.
Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife Thelma, his sons Timothy (wife Brandy) and James, his daughters Darlene (husband Steven) and Kim, his grandchildren Xavier, Eli, Desiree’, Amy, Elicia, Chris, and great grandson Owen. His sisters Carmen (husband Ray), Frances and Irene (husband Lee) – as well as countless other friends and family who held him in high regard.
A celebration of James’ life will take place on August 10th at 2pm at Lucas Funeral Home in Keller, Texas to honor his legacy and the joy he brought to those around him - allowing all who knew him to pay their respects and celebrate a life well-lived. After the service, the family invites you to continue the celebration at the home of Timothy and Brandy located at 1028 Northern Oaks Ct. Springtown, TX 76082.
In lieu of flowers or plants, the family has asked that donations be made to the Eagles Autism Foundation in James’ memory.
James Francis Delk Jr. will forever be remembered for his warmth, compassion, and unwavering love for his family. May his spirit live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
