James DeLozier Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Partlow Funeral Chapel - Lebanon on Jun. 28, 2025.
Tracy City, Tennessee - Mr. James (Jim) Andrew DeLozier, 76, passed away Wednesday, June 25, 2025, surrounded by his family. He was born on March 10, 1949 in Lebanon TN to Rev. Robert E. DeLozier and Julia Voline Wright DeLozier, who preceded him in death. Three brothers, Robert Jr., Noel, and Paul DeLozier also preceded him in death.
Jim was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Melba Adams DeLozier, with whom he recently celebrated their Golden Anniversary, a testament to a lifetime of love and devotion. He is also survived by a daughter, Amy (Eric) Opatich, three cherished granddaughters, Cameron, Alyse, and Olivia Opatich; three sisters, Helen Brethauer, Maudine West, and Marilyn Crutcher; two brothers, David (Shirley), and Philip (Lee) DeLozier. He also shared a special bond with his mother-in-law, Ruth Adams, who remained a steady presence and source of support throughout his life.
Jim graduated from Lebanon High School, and earned his Bachelor of Science and Masters of Science from Middle Tennessee State University. He served honorably in the U.S. Air Force for six years with most of his tour spent as an instructor in cryptographic maintenance at the USAF Crypto School in San Antonio, Texas. His work played a vital role in our nation's secure communications and our national security.
Jim then devoted thirty-four years to teaching Mechanical Drawing, Auto-CAD, and computer building at Grundy County High School in Coalmont, TN. He retired from his role as an educator with a legacy of dedication, technical knowledge, and a lasting impact on the many students he mentored over the decades. Although he earned the respect and admiration of his many peers over the years for his knowledge and ethics, all who knew him saw a man grounded in humility.
Jim was a faithful member of the Providence Community Church, where he found fellowship and spiritual strength. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. His legacy of kindness, dedication, and strength will live on through his family and the many lives he touched.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00, Friday, June 27, at the Bonny Oaks Cemetery, Coalmont, TN, with Minister Roy Hopkins officiating. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Bonny Oaks Cemetery in his honor.
