James F. DeTerra, Jr., 73, of New Bedford, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 24, 2025.

Born in Acushnet, son of the late James and Vivian (Macomber) DeTerra, he lived in New Bedford most of his life.

James enjoyed watching the Red Sox and Patriots, and going to the Poirier post and Alfie's Bar. He liked fishing on the Cape Cod Canal.

James served proudly in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War.

Survivors include his sons James DeTerra, III and Mark McKenna; a brother, Tom DeTerra; his sisters Gloria Rucker and her husband Dick, and Donna Loring and her husband Richard; his niece Robin; and his nephews Thomas James Sousa and Michael Baldwin.

He is predeceased by his son Steven DeTerra.

His visitation will be held Wednesday October 29, 2025 from 10:30 to 11:30AM in the Saunders-Dwyer Funeral Home, 495 Park St., with a service at 11:30 AM in the Funeral Home. Burial in the Massachusetts National Cemetery will be held at 12:30 PM.
