James Dewey Obituary
He was born April 13, 1941 in Utica, N.Y., the son of Earl and Mary (Acker) Dewey.
James graduated from the United States Coast Guard Academy in 1963. He married Jane Terisa Confery in 1963, and had four children they raised in Norwich. James left the Coast Guard in 1969, and went into banking. He continued his military career through the National Guard and his banking career at the Society of Savings in New Britain, then American Savings Bank, Norwich Savings Society and then Peoples Bank. He retired in 2016.
His wife Jane passed March 10, 2000. He later married Mary Doherty Dewey who also passed Sept. 14, 2023. James was predeceased by his daughter Kerry. He is survived by three sons, James C. (Margaret) of Niantic, Jeffery of East Haddam, and Billy (Judy); and three grandchildren, Molly, Julia and Lauren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 2, 2026, at Sacred Heart Church, 52 West Town Street, Norwich, with burial to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Norwich.

I was very saddened to hear of Jim's passing. Our families were longtime friends having shared our lives going back to the late 1960's when Jim and I began carpooling together from Norwich to Hartford. We became close friends as did our families and socialized regularly over the years until we left Norwich in 1989. We stayed in close touch and visited with Jim and family on our frequent trips back. We had many unforgettable, highly cherished times over the years many which are now flashing back and dominating my thoughts these past days. Also, I will forever be grateful to Jim for all the help he selflessly gave me and my family members over the years. Our time together was, also, involved in sports, the National Guard, schooling and more but overall, those many years carpooling together brought us so close together and into a unique friendship I will forever cherish. Jim, you will be well remembered but sorely missed by all of us!
And especially, our condolences to all the Dewey Family and we share deeply in your loss. We will never forget those wonderful times we shared over the years including other family members, many now departed, who we got to know and appreciate! Thank you all for sharing a big part in our lives!
