Mark Stevan Dewey

June 9, 1957 - February 12, 2026

Mark Stevan Dewey of Scottsdale, Arizona and Washington Island, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully in

the early morning of February 12, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was 68 years old.

Born in Bethesda, Maryland on June 9, 1957 to Thomas and Jane Dewey, Mark grew up in Palatine,

Illinois, where he attended high school. It was his deep love for and his "island fever" that eventually

pulled him north of the tension line to Washington Island, where he would discover not only his life's

calling but also the love of his life.

On Washington Island, Mark met Carrie, and they were married in July of 1997, in what they fondly

called "the summer of love." Their partnership was a testament to devotion and shared adventures on

land, water and air.

Mark's professional journey was as diverse as it was inspiring. He began working for the Washington

Island Ferry Line, where he became a Captain. During this time, he discovered his passion for healthcare,

joining Washington Island Fire and Rescue and becoming an EMT. His dedication to helping others led

him to become a paramedic in Door County and eventually a Registered Nurse. In retirement, Mark

returned full circle to his roots as a captain with the Ferry Line.

There was nothing in life Mark couldn't accomplish. He built a dream home, moved to Arizona,

constructed a cottage, continued his education, became a pilot and owned a plane. Each achievement was

undertaken with the same determination and joy that defined his character.

Mark is survived by his beloved wife, Carrie and dog Zach; his brothers Thomas (Jessica), David (Chris),

Scott (Katie); his sister Susan; nieces Alex, Kelsey, Jeana, and nephews Aaron, Alden, Buck and Bailey.

He leaves behind countless friends and community members whose lives he touched with his humor,

infectious laugh, and caring spirit.

Mark wasn't just liked by people-he was loved. His warmth and generosity will continue to live on in

the many hearts he touched throughout his remarkable life.

A celebration of Mark's life will take place on Washington Island in the summer of 2026.
