James F. Dickerson of Seguin, Texas was called home to the Lord on June 12, 2024, at the age of 88. He was born to Arthur Lee Dickerson and Willie Mae (Wooten) Dickerson on September 12, 1935, in Montgomery, Alabama.

James enlisted in the US Air Force at the age of 16 after forging his mothers signature on his parental consent form. He served for 4 months before his deception was discovered and he was subsequently discharged. James enlisted in the US Army on October 10, 1952 at the age of 17. He served in the Korean war and was assigned to Headquarters company, 3rd battalion, 17th Infantry Division during the battle for Pork Chop Hill, one of the most difficult and costly battles of the Korean war. He was awarded the Bronze Star with Combat V and the Purple Heart for actions and wounds received during the battle. James was discharged on April 16, 1954. He was a dedicated soldier who served his country with honor and valor.

James married the love of his life, Mary Gonzales on May 29, 1960. They had a son, Jimmy who was born on March 22, 1962 and passed away on January 14, 1996. James and Mary were married for 60 years before her passing in 2020. They loved traveling the world together and went on many cruises. James loved to go to the casino to play poker but won considerably more on the slot machines. James loved football and was a lifelong fan of the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Dallas Cowboys. He looked forward every fall to watching his "BAMA" games on Saturday afternoon and his Dallas Cowboys on Sunday.

James was a small business owner and self-employed man of all trades who retired in 1989. James was a proud member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Chapter 61. He served in countless honor guards for fallen veterans for many years.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Willie Dickerson, wife, Mary Dickerson, son Jimmy Dickerson, and brother, William Lee Dickerson. Left to cherish his memory are his nephew, Peter Gonzales, siblings, Aubrey, Charles, Betty Jo and Jim, brother-in-law Nick Gonzales and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at Palmer Mortuary on Tuesday, June 18, 2024 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin at 7:00 p.m. A funeral mass will be offered at 10:00 AM on Wednesday June 19 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic church. Entombment in the mausoleum will follow at St. James cemetery.

James will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
