James DiMartino Obituary

CPO James Phillip DiMartino-12/08/1925-08/08/2013 James Phillip DiMartino, formerly of Sanford, Florida, son of Filippo DiMartino and Mary Amico completed his life's journey August 8th, 2013. Jack, as he liked to be called attended Gilbert HS, Winsted, CT. He enlisted in the USN days after Pearl Harbor was bombed at the age of 16. He officially re-enlisted and began his 30 years of serving his country that he so dearly loved in the USN in May 1944. While serving his country he was assigned to the USS Roosevelt CVA 42, and the USS Forrestal CA59 where he served as a parachute rigger, safety officer, and squadron maintenance chief. Upon his last call of duty at the Sanford, FL NAS he retired and was Honorably Discharged. Jack worked with the Florida Dept. of Transportation as an Engineer Technician II and advanced to Engineer I. He is preceded in death by his wife and motherof their children, Gertrude Toepfer, Frieda Brown his 2nd wife and daughter-in-law, Wanda Tyndall DiMartino. He is survived by his sister Lucy DiMartino Nigri of Gransby, CT, daughters Dona Marie Thompson and her husband Norwood Britton Thompson, Apopka, FL, Rosanne D. Conliffe and husband Gary Conliffe, Newberry, FL, and son James Phillip DiMartino Jr, Orlando, FL. He was blessed with 8 grandchildren and 5 great-granchildren. James was a great influence and example to his children and those around him. He was a true patriot to his country and what it stood for. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Wounded Warriors Foundation.
