Obituary published on Legacy.com by Buxton & Bass Okeechobee Funeral Home and Crematory on Mar. 22, 2024.
James Blayne "Jamie" Dolwick, 80, died peacefully March 21, 2024, at his home in Okeechobee, where his last few weeks were spent in the care of his two loving daughters and a wonderful team of nurses and staff from Vitas Hospice.
Jamie loved his family, his friends, his faith, and fun times. He also had an affinity for the University of Kentucky Wildcats, Bluegrass music, and a cold beer (or two) to cap off the day. He had lived in Okeechobee for 25 years, but his ties to the area date back to the 1950s when his family started coming to Big Lake Lodge to winter and fish.
Born April 11, 1943, in a former one-room schoolhouse in Boone County, Kentucky, that his family converted to a grocery store, Jamie was the son of John W. and Dorothy Helen Miller Dolwick, who preceded him in death. He grew up in the
Hebron, Kentucky, area across the Ohio River from Cincinnati. The youngest of three children, he attended Boone County High School, where he participated in football and played drums in the band. A member of the Class of 1961 Rebels, he faithfully attended class reunions until recently.
He was an electric lineman at Union, Light, Heat and Power, Cincinnati Gas and Electric, and Duke Energy retiring after more than 30 years.
He joined the Good Faith Lodge No. 95 F. & A. M. in 1966 and became a Master Mason and Life Member of The Grand Lodge of Kentucky. Jamie was a Life Member of the Auxiliary of VFW Post 10539 where he was celebrated as an outstanding volunteer especially for his efforts collecting donations for the Buddy Poppy program supporting disabled and struggling veterans. He regularly donated blood and collected aluminum can pull tabs for children's charities.
He is survived by his daughters, Jennifer Evans of
Brownsburg, Indiana, and Julie Marsh of
Jamestown, Indiana; two sons-in-law, Tim Evans and Jubal Marsh; four grandchildren, Morgan Evans and Jessie, Jonah, and Jaela Marsh; his sister, Dorothy "Dotty" Lucas and her husband, Jim; brother, Ron Dolwick and his wife, Karen; eight nieces and nephews; many cousins and friends, as well as special companion, Timmie Oldiges.
Jamie was a member of Church of Our Saviour where he enjoyed reading Scripture as a lector and singing joyfully at the early Sunday service.
A Celebration of Life and Funeral Mass for family and friends will be held at 4 p.m. on April 11, 2023, on what would have been his 81st birthday, at Church of Our Saviour, 200 NW 3rd St.,
Okeechobee, Florida, with Celebrant Rev. Kay Mueller. Some of Jamie's remains will be added to the church Memorial Garden.
Gifts given in honor of his life may be made to the donor's choice of his many cherished charitable organizations, or Vitas Hospice to ensure continuing quality compassionate end of life care.
